TITLE: ASSISTANT STOCK CONTROLLER ORGANIZATION UNIT: STORES - OFFICE
APPLICABLE TO: CITY
DUTIES:
Under general direction to assist the Stock Controller in maintaining adequate inventories of materials, equipment, spare parts and supplies throughout the system; Train new and present employees; Act as leader for the Principal Stock Control Clerks; Check and approve purchase requisitions and related work as required. In this connection to perform details of work such as:
Be responsible for the ordering of materials, supplies, spare parts and equipment; revision of ordering points; correspond with operating departments relative to materials in stock and their movement.
Be responsible for ordering estimated quantities of materials and supplies for special jobs and future anticipated requirements.
Be responsible for the preparation of standard descriptions and system wide simplification of stocks.
Handle requests for information in regard to availability of materials and suggesting substitutions.
Review central system record of usage and commitments to ascertain material movement irregularities.
Personally order major items of materials, such as carload lots of wire, transformers, poles, cross arms etc.
Prepare prescribed stock control forms, reports and tabulations as required. SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
For care when order materials to avoid ordering excessive or insufficient quantities.
For maintaining adequate supply of materials in stock to enable operating departments to maintain uninterrupted service to customers.
For holding as confidential prices, kind and quantities of materials on hand.
ASSISTANT STOCK CONTROLLER Continued CONTACTS:
Occasional personal and telephone contacts with contractors and suppliers desiring to purchase materials from stock.
In the absence of, or when directed by the Stock Controller, personal or telephone contacts with salesmen and supplier representatives pertaining to materials being purchased or returned for credit.
Personal and telephone contacts with department supervisors and other employees in departments of the company on matters relating to material and supply requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent and an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, or a minimum of 60 credit hours as described below from an accredited college or university.
a. Five years in a position in the Company in a capacity having to do with the use and identification of equipment, materials and suppliers; or
b. Two years' experience as an Assistant Buyer; or
c. Five years' experience as a regular employee in an outside company in a position having to do with the use and identification and purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies.
