TITLE:   CONSTRUCTION DRAFTING SQUAD LEADER

 

ORGANIZATION UNIT:

Power Operations Services

 

APPLICABLE TO:  City and County

 

DUTIES:

 

Under general supervision to be responsible for all levels of design and drafting work of a squad of employees including one or more Construction Design Draftsmen; to coordinate the work of this squad with others; to prepare studies, drawings and formulate designs relating to the most economical and practical methods of doing a proposed project; and to do related work as required. In this connection to perform details of work, such as:

 

Assign or assist in assigning work to the squad and, when required, check work performed by them.

 

Coordinate the work of his/her squad with the work of other squads, and coordinate his portion of a project with the project as a whole.

 

Prepare work schedules and maintain progress schedules of work being done by his/her squad.

 

Obtain necessary field information and measurements when required. Assist in preparing cost estimates on a project when necessary.

 

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

For accuracy and conformity to standards of work performed by his/her squad. For meeting construction and work schedules.

 

For the safety of those accompanying him/her on field trips.

 

For holding as confidential advance information concerning construction projects. CONTACTS:

 

With persons in various departments in connection with work planned or in progress. WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

When on field trips subject to usual conditions existing in power plants, substations and other buildings, and subject to outdoor weather conditions.


CONSTRUCTION DRAFTING SQUAD LEADER (Continued) HAZARDS:

 

When on field trips or assigned to a plant, subject to traffic hazards while driving automobile, and to those hazards incidental to visiting construction projects, power plants, substations and other buildings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

 

One year as a Construction Design Draftsman and Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or engineering technology, with at least two advanced courses in CAD. The degree must be in the field of electrical, mechanical or structural engineering or technology in the discipline the employee selected.
