CREDIT REPRESENTATIVE

 

ORGANIZATION UNIT: Customers Business Department .

 

APPLICABLE TO: City

 

DUTIES:

 

Under indirect and intermittent supervision, by telephone or on scheduled routes designed to be covered. each day on foot or by Company automobile, to contact customers at homes or places of business with respect to past-due electric or steam service or merchandise accounts; to grant temporary extensions of time, or to disconnect past-due electric service; to obtain for follow-up purposes all available information on overdue accounts, to repossess merchandise; to obtain applications for service from customers who have moved into premises and are using service but who have not made application; to turn in daily all cash collected and to report the collection results on each account assigned; on peak days, as rotation of collection schedules will permit, to assist Adjusters in counter or telephone adjustment work; occasion­ally, when scheduled collection work is completed, to perform various kinds of office work in the Division, and to do related. work as required.

 

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

For care to avoid the erroneous disconnection of service-to customers for non-payment of bills, and when assisting Adjusters to promptly issue orders to restore service which has previously been dis­connected.

 

For the exercise of tact and good judgment in explaining the Company's collection policy to customers who are subject to dis­connection of service for non-payment of delinquent accounts or surety deposits.

 

For handling and safe-keeping of Company funds, including initial daily change fund of $10 as well as amounts collected in the field which may range from $100 to $375 per day.

 

For holding as confidential information relating to customers' accounts.

 

For careful use and custody of Company automobile.

 

Fore careful operation of Company automobile to prevent injury to public.

With all kinds, types, and classes of customers, from residential customers of the poorest class to. owners and managers of commercial and industrial enterprises.

Occasionally, with clerks and other employes in other departments and divisions in connection with information relating to customer's accounts or service when working in the office..

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Required to go outside in all kinds of weather; occasional opera­tion of Company automobile.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED:

 

Walking on sidewalks, up and down stairs and into basements, with use of common carriers in going to and from scheduled routes; occasionally, to operate Company automobile.

 

HAZARDS:

 

Subject to electrical shocks and burns; to physical. abuse by delinquent customers; sometimes risk of dog bite; risks involved in driving Company automobile.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High school graduation, or the equivalent.

 

Two years of public contact work outside of the Company or two years' experience in credit and collection work in the Company, with some public contact experience.

 

Should have a pleasing personality, be able to speak distinctly, and be neat and clean, mature appearance and good stature.
