ORGANIZATION UNIT::

 

Transmission & Distribution Operating

Department - Substations Operating Division

APPLICABLE TO: City

 

DUTIES:

 

Under direct but not constant supervision to prepare and maintain records of tests performed by relay field test crews on system protective and control relay equipment tests on major substation and plant components such as power transformers, circuit breakers, current and potential transformers; to prepare reports to be submitted to customers of similar work done in customer sub­stations; to classify and file incoming prints and job information; to collect and assemble various data for analysis and reports; to transmit foremen's instructions to field test crews; to perform semi-technical assignments and to do related work as required. In this connection to perform details of work, such as:

 

Review and check for accuracy reports submitted by field test crews of work performed in connection

with new plant and substation installations and prepare these reports for submission to the various departments involved.

 

Prepare reports from data furnished by field test crews of routine maintenance or new installation tests in customer substations.

 

Prepare standard system relay record cards from. data obtained from field test reports. Incorporate these cards into the existing relay record system.

 

Classify and file incoming prints and related informa­tion on construction work to be done by field test crews.

 

Maintain Relay office general follow-up file on corres­pondence and field testing work progress.

 

Check routine field test reports for accuracy of calculations on such tests. as power or current trans­former ratio, circuit breaker time-performance, transformer winding resistance, etc..

 

Summarize daily completed work from field test reports and enter into log books..

 

Transmit foremen's instructions to field crews as they call in.

 

Perform an assortment of semi-technical assignments pertaining to relay test records, equipment performance records, etc.

 

Occasionally visit test crews in the field in connec­tion with specific jobs..

 

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

For care in the interpretation of field test reports and in the preparation of reports to be submitted to customers and to other departments.

 

For accurate recording of field test data.

 

For accurately transmitting foremen's instructions to field test crews.

 

For careful use and custody of Company automobile.

 

For careful operation of Company automobile to prevent injury to public.

 

CONTACTS:

 

With field test crews in connection with job assignments and instructions from foremen.

 

With employes of other departments or divisions such as Power Production; Regional; Transmission and Distribution Engineering, Construction and Office Deparrments; and others regarding work in progress and reports.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduation from high school or the equivalent, including science courses.

 

Four years experience with the Company, part of which was on a job or jobs where some knowledge of substation and plant operating facilities and methods would be acquired.

Have a basic knowledge of the-fundamentals of electricity.
